Despite my absence from the blogosphere I have been crafting and I finally finished my embroidery set. This was the third one I did, roses.
In order to complete my plan and use the hoops as frames I had to figure out a way to hide the extra fabric, after trying and failing with pins I resorted to glue. This is what the back looks like.

I decided to display my new “art” on the side of the bookshelf in our living room, here’s what they look like together.

I have to say that I really enjoyed embroidery and I’m already thinking of my next project. I think it will be pillow cases for my own bed, I’ve used cream bed linen for as long as I’ve had my own place but I’m tired of it, I’m thinking I’d like white bed linen with DIY embroidery detail on the pillows and a crochet throw for the bed. I like the idea of having some examples of my crafty goodness in every room. This might also require new window dressing….now if only I new how to make curtains

Marian did you bind the inside ring with bias binding? It helps prevent the fabric being marked by the rings.
If you did bind it then you could stitch the excess fabric to the binding when the project is complete, then trim and add a backing with old fabric to hide the raw edge.
Glue will darken and stain over time and also lose the sticking power.

Maz - I was starting to worry where you’d gotten off to.
The pieces are fab although I am distracted by the book cases of DVDs.

GM, I’m kinda embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what bias binding is - in fact what “cut on the bias” actually is, is still a mystery to me. I’ll do some crafty research and hopefully I’ll give that a try the next time.
Lottie, I thought people might be actually, but I love that corner so much that I couldn’t help putting the whole lot in. The original photo on flickr has notes too.

That sign on the bookshelf is excellent.
Sigh. I wish I was so creative!

Lu, thanks
Ciara, I know, I love it too. It’s one of the best pieces of memorabilia ever!
